Yala National Park Safari: Leopards & Elephants with Private Guide
Yala safari from Sri Lanka's south coast and hill country. Jeep safari tips, best time to see leopards and elephants, and how to add Yala to your tour.
Yala National Park is Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve and is known for leopard sightings, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and rich birdlife. We arrange private jeep safaris as part of your tour.
What you can see
Leopards are the main attraction, but most safaris also include elephants, wild boar, buffalo, crocodiles, peacocks and many birds. Sightings are never guaranteed, since this is wild nature, but good timing and an experienced tracker improve the chances.
Best time to go
Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to see animals. The drier months are often better for sightings because animals gather near waterholes. Park sections can close for seasonal maintenance, so ask us to check before you travel.
How we include Yala
Yala is part of our 10, 11 and 12 day tours, usually with a night in Tissamaharama and an evening or morning private jeep safari. Entry fees are paid directly by guests.
Frequently asked questions
Will I see a leopard in Yala?
